When micrometers make the difference - Micro-precision 3D printed parts enable new designs in medical technology.

Miniature perfection: Fully functional microgrippers from 0.8 mm, printed directly in a single step using Micro Laser Sintering for tomorrow's medical technology.

Precision in the micrometre range, printed in one step:

With its print-as-one approach, 3D MicroPrint is revolutionising the production of medical microgrippers, tweezers and surgical tools. Thanks to Micro Laser Sintering (MLS), intricate metal components including integrated movement mechanics can be printed directly - without any assembly.

What makes it special: The laser-based powder bed process works with extremely fine particles (<5 µm) and layer thicknesses in the micrometre range. This results in gap dimensions of just 15-20 µm with surface roughness of Ra < 2 - 3 µm - values that are unrivalled in metal additive manufacturing to date.

Added value for medical technology:

The conventional production of microsurgical gripping mechanisms is complex, costly and time-consuming. With MLS, however, delivery times can be reduced to just a few days, and the entire assembly process can be eliminated. This leads to:

  • Reduced costs due to elimination of tool and test equipment construction
  • Faster time to market due to shorter development cycles
  • Extended design freedom for demanding surgical applications

The 17-4PH/1.4542 stainless steel used fulfils all the requirements of medical technology in terms of corrosion resistance, hardness and biocompatibility. Post-processing using microblasting and electrolytic polishing ensures the components have the necessary functionality and aesthetic appeal.

MLS offers designers, developers and medtech companies completely new ways of realising innovations quickly and sustainably. The future of surgical micromechanics begins here — with a single printing process.
