CO2 snow jet cleaning for medical technology
Recycled CO2 cleans surfaces: High standards of cleanliness for medical components are crucial for quality and safety. However, complex geometries and sensitive surfaces often make cleaning difficult.
High cleanliness requirements for medical components are crucial for quality and safety. However, complex geometries and sensitive surfaces often make cleaning difficult.
This is where CO2 snow blasting, in particular the quattroClean technology from acp systems AG, offers an innovative and reliable solution for medical technology.
The process uses liquid carbon dioxide, which expands into fine snow when it exits a special nozzle. This snow, accelerated by compressed air, removes contaminants through a combination of thermal, mechanical, solvent and sublimation effects.
The decisive advantage: carbon dioxide sublimates completely at ambient pressure. This means that cleaning is dry, leaves no cleaning agent residues and is gentle on the substrate, even with delicate structures.
It enables the reliable and reproducible removal of particulate and film-like contaminants – even silicones – from almost all materials. A study by NMI Tübingen indicated that the combination of wet chemical cleaning followed by CO2 snow jet cleaning with acp systems achieved the best cleanliness values on metallic samples. Even masking residues after plasma spray coatings on implants could be successfully removed.
The process parameters can be precisely tailored to the respective application and material. As a dry process, selective cleaning can also be carried out on live or sensitive plastic parts and easily integrated into automated production lines. This makes it an efficient and validatable method for the highest purity requirements in medical technology.
