NMI expertise for the highest medical standards

The NMI as a partner to innovative companies: An example of how this works can be seen in the surface finishing of medical devices, which is designed to make germs adhere less effectively to the instruments.

Supporting innovative companies, especially the numerous SMEs, is one of the NMI's core tasks. With its broad expertise in application-oriented research, the scientists can provide support in development, analysis and approval.

One example of this is the collaboration between the NMI and Glaser GmbH, brokered by EDIH Südwest. The company wanted to optimize the quality of microsurgical instruments so that they would have a longer service life and at the same time meet the highest medical standards. The NMI provided support with its expertise in the field of surface finishing of medical devices and advised on the Medical Device Regulation (MDR).
